    Pop Cap Games is a developer and publisher of casual games. It is established in 2000 by John Vechey, Brian Fiete and Jason Kapalka, headquartered in the United States, Seattle, and global R & D base set up in Shanghai, San Francisco and Vancouver. The famous game of Pop Cap is Bejeweled. Bejeweled is a casual game to eliminate gems. This game won the CGW Hall of Fame in 2002. Pop Cap continues to create different game styles and develop new markets. Their goal is to let all ages to feel happy from game!
    In July 2011, Pop Cap was acquired by EA.

    Maxis software is a video game company founded in the United States. Maxis were acquired by Electronic Arts in 1998. Now it is under the EA Company. Maxis is called “The father of simulation”, it have some famous game such as The Sims series, Sim City series and Spore.
    In the year of 1987, Jeff Braun and Will Wright created a new type of game. Two years later, Maixs became the top of simulation games. The sales of the series of The Sims reached nearly 10 million sets. It is the oldest and most dazzling star in the history of game. After that, they named all of their games “Sim”. They are called the series of Sims.

Lead Artist:
    The Lead Artist is a principal person responsible for a team in an art section or project. In game art and design the development is controlled by the lead artist, but the whole art team will be made up by artists who will be chosen for their skills according to the requirements of the project. Artists work together on a main feature under the guidance of the lead artist to become a efficient and professional team.

    The Lead artist need to be able to work with others on a game project, include planning, painting, scenes design, characters design, props design, animation design, special effects and the whole production work. They will guide their team through the game and delegating tasks on future work. Lead artist need to recruit new members according to the requirements of the projects, and then quickly integrate them into the team. They need to know how to communicate ideas and manage the team, assign jobs to each member of team, knowing their strong and weak points.

    Behind each game there is a game development team. The team can be divided into many sections, the game designer, game artist and special effects artist etc. Primarily the game should be designed by lead artist, and other game artists need to do auxiliary work. The book of “Post Mortems “from Game Developer makes me know how important the team is, for example in the processing of Age of Empires and Halo.

    A lot of games copy the same style, but a good game will have a unique style. The style refers to the scene environment, role models, skills, items, etc. Players view the world of game through the game environment. They create lovely models for players, and skill items allow players to have more choice. Lead artist is the designer of these features. Unique game style design is one of the keys to becoming a lead master and makes the game popular.

【2016】Weekly Journal

【Week 13】04.01-08.01

    On Monday we reviewed "Knowledge of Maya". After which I did some drawings and spent about 6 hours completing them.

    On Tuesday I drew the background for my table game, It took me the whole day. Then I considered the texture in the background and thought about the difference between the day and night time scene.

 
    On Wenesday Our class learnt how to use a layer mask in PhotoShop. Using some images from google we made a comic . After class I change the background to make this page looks more gristly.

    On Thursday we were shown how to make a retro phone. After class I drew a colour-pencil drawing. I haven't use colour pencils much before so I was very careful while I drawing it.
    On Firday in the morning I used some more images from google and made a new comic . Then I started to do my research work until very late that evening.
    Saturday and Sunday (morning to night), I made a retro phone for my homework. I made many mistakes drawing this phone and reformed and reshaped it at least 6 times. But I think it's a good way to practised and quickly make changes, I restarted each time until I was happy with my work.
