——————SIHOUETTES——————
There are some scrawled images of my timepiece. First I drew silhouettes to find
some ideas. I would then use them and mix them together because I think the
combination would be interesting.
I like the use of the 'Gothic' theme for my timepiece because time is meaning
'Life' for me. Such as time time is the only thing we can never get back. Many
historians tell us time is the witness, the dark tone of life filled with
blood, death and despair. We can not resist time we can only surrender to it. We are the genuflector( worshippers) of time.We cherish time, pursue the sun and plan our around it. Time is irresistible. We can do anything with time. But the rule of the world is ; End of life we die .Time has run it's course. Gothic is embroiled in the darkness the ghostly obsessed dark side of humanity. So I would use this genre to make my timepiece. To remind humanity not to lose or waste time. In it self time is valuable for everyone.
( Gothic Info detail: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gothic_art )
In this piece there are images of iteration . I drew some different detailed
parts ,then I refined and redesigned my idea to make it more technical.
First I thought about the Cat. I would like to integrate a black cat into my
timepiece. I find it to be an interesting subject. It has good and bad things
referred to in legend. It will help me to put some expression into my work. Also
I would like to make the time piece a rotary device with two faces. One side
depicting day and night the other youth and old age.
-----Black Cat Legend------
1. One of the oldest mummies ever found was that of a cat.
This being about 5000 years old .Worshipped and revered by ancient civilisations
and buried with the dead in tombs.2. Black cats are believed to deter evil spirits and are thought to be lucky in many cultures.
3. Legends have it that cats are ominous they ward off bad luck and will take the initiative to suppress evil
4. Black cats are also associated with 'Witches' . This originates from an European medieval era. Since ancient time cats have been mysterious casting a dark shadow and a trace of supernatural feeling.
5. In 962AD there were hundreds of cats treated as 'offerings ' in the witch hunting era. Many women suspected of being a witch were put to death along with there cats by being burnt at the stake. People thought they were ominous ,the Angel of the devil.
6. After plague people blamed black cats saying they harboured the power of satan so must be destroyed.
7. But more enlightened time in Our culture cats are seen as lucky and buy stroking it back you'll have good luck, but not it's tail that will bring bad luck.
8. Scryer thoughts are that the black cats are mysterious and if one crosses your path it will bring you luck for a week.

——————DEATH TIME——————
I join the pieces to my work. Death is dancing at night time 3am. The nighttime of my piece is 6:01pm- 6:00am when it will change to the daytime part. Changing process needs to spend one minute . I make death dance in the face of the timepiece because night is the domain of ghosts at play. Ghosts will come out and play together. So I add this black humour to my work.
I add candles in this piece, beacause I think that burning candle is like our life, it is a consumables same as time. The Background composed with some pieces, I made them look like dark and light clouds and joined together to meaning the darkness and lightness are conflict in the sky such as people chasing the dream with trouble. The bats are the symbol of fear. I drew the root's veins looks like a heart, then follow the heart we can found a bloody rose and thorns on the top, I put an eye into this pointer to mean people are keep one's eyes open for the time. At the end is a grave death surrounds . The addition of chains symbolising the burden of life.
The sound of iron chains symbolize the arrival of death. Red is the colour of life. The red iron chains are a symbol that represents life and death as one. At night, death reveals his true colours. A skull under a black gown is a cavity of immortality. Carnival in the dark ,spooky laughter ensues . I think this is an unique oppressive action from death. The Clock consists of dark eyed trees, red roses and thorns. In many works, gloomy and weird Dryad often used to devour life, and the rose and thorns are common plants to describe the theme of death, such as vampires and graveyards . I still made them red, the color of lifeblood . Trees are the basis of the clock, the tree's energy is from it's roots. Heart-shaped roots is a symbol of life is in the hands of time.
These 2 images are the death composition of ' death time'. I make the paths focus to the sickle as part of the main face of the clock. I use the red colour to embrace death and his sickle. I use the inverted triangle to make it is not stable because I want to make the design dynamic with an active atmosphere.
——————LIFE TIME——————
The daytime of my timepiece is 6:01am- 6:00pm once again the process using one
minute to change from nighttime . I use the black cat to segment death and the
sun to represent the cat in daytime to be the guardian of people. I show flying
moths darting into the fire (sun) to symbolise people like the moths chasing
splendour. Black Butterflies are the symbol of bringing death.
Death is wrapped in his cloak under the sun. I think it means that death puts forward the problem of life and gives it to people to deal with. The butterfly at the bottom of screen looks is of huge scale, perhaps it's the weight of life, and a black cat witnessed all this as an observer.
These 2 images are the composition of ' lifetime ' I made the paths focus on the
sun clock because the main part of it's face is the clock. Also I use the
black colour to embrace sun to make high contrast for showing the mian thing is the clock.
This is an example of the daytime clock moving mode. I would like to change the moving mode of the small ring to reverse the rotation. Because when looking at it is blinding. The face of the clock would change to use shutter mode, I think this way more interesting than split-second mode.
——————THREE VIEWS——————
These are the three views of my timepiece. I changed some detail of it's shape to make it compatible. This timepiece is a plate shape, the interior components are placed inside between the 2 faces. The rotation mode is the centre axis to change the face.
The night-time piece is composed of red chains. Death who exposes his bones under a black robe. A tree with an eye decorated with rose & thorns, and heart-shaped roots. The tree, rose & thorns constituted the timepiece. The main part of the day-time piece is the sun, butterflies and Death under his cloak. The sun has different expressions, and sunlight is composed of clockwise and counter-clockwise. The parts of these have 2 faces are assembled together and are all independent tiers of individuals.
This clock is composed of the above two parts, they are both connected together and yet separated and it can automatically replenish .I would like to make them into a carved stereopicture, because I think it will make more historical sense.
——————FInal Pieces——————
This is my final timepiece. I reference Chinese Yin-yang with Heaven and Hell because they are meaning opposite things on the same timepiece. I put the Death-time into magma and life-time into an iridescent place with the suture material to mean that they are closely linked together.
I would like to try more possibilities with my timepiece. So I try to put it into a scene. But I wouldn't like to make it an exact science, because it will be an inter-spacial image in the future.
Also I think this timepiece is suitable for using in an exploratory game or RPG game. For example: Indicates the time. It will be constantly reminding players that time is life.
When night comes, bats fly out from the other side of the screen, Death shows his true colours, trees become a ferocious, rose red colour of blood. When the sun rises again, black butterfly still remind players that death is never far away. In the game, if you stop, the threat will hit you.
