   Today I studied some compositions of drawing; we talked  about 'The Rule of Thirds', 'The L', 'The cross' and the 'Iconic'. I think they are very useful for me,they will help me to improve my artwork.  

 

 

   This image I used was 'The iconic cross' . I use the cross to distinguish 2 characters. In image, one the character is propping other character because I would like to make these two have a relationship so they have an interaction together.

    I put these characters up and down of the image.  The up one is light in the dark and the below one is opposite. Because the story of these two characters is strange. I made the main colour dark green because I want to give the image a gloomy atmosphere. This drawing is not very detailed but I think is good enough for me to depict in next time.

 

    Now I would like to talk about these two character: 

 

    This is my first desgin of the character, I called her 今井美幸 ( Miyuki Imai ). She is a 17 years old Japanese girl. She usually wears a man's colthes becuase she living in the warring states period in Japan. She can't wear normal female clothes because  I think she will have a hard time if she just living with her mother. For example someone will know they haven't got any men folk around to help them, and bad people will try to loot and steal from poor people. So I would like her to dress as a strong man to help maintain stability.  ( Similar Hua Mulan wearing men's clothing.)

 

    There are the images of design 今井美幸 ( Miyuki Imai ) women's dress. The story when she starts wearing a kimono is becuase she is falling in love. She met an injured man one day, and she looked after him for 2 months. The man shows her what is a real man is and how different people and things she never knew before. So she want to expression of true self; the first thing is change back into her real clothes.

 

 



     The story of image 1; She first changed her colthes then she is feeling very different than before, because she hasn't 'be a girl' for a long time and to fall in love. She can not control the feeling of happiness as she dances by the brook.

    Image 2 and 3 are about her dress design. This kimono is a bit different of pattern,  because she wearing it when she dies. She was crossed in love because the man she loved was married already , but she thought the best women for him is her. So she tried to destroy the man's marriage but she failed. Fool for love makes her Jealous and hate  so much. She never wants to get hurt like this but she can not do anything to realize her dream. The story in the end, she drowns herself in a river.      I use some technique to decorate her kimono; The Forger-me-not flower meaning she truly loves someone, the equinox flower meaning death. The blood meaning she was wounded, the fire meaning hate, the black widow meaning she is a killer, the water meaning related with her. I would like to make my work more connotative and beautiful so I design the compose of her dress as well.

     I put the black widow interior on the kimono because she is a Hashihime now. She was a loser of love, but she forgot everthing of her human life. The only thing she remembers is "I am loving someone but he has discarded me, I want take revenge on him.". So she waits on the bridge for someone to come , she will kill if she mets a heartless man or a excellent women.

 

 

 

    There are the images of my first drawing of Hashihime. I use my own composition for this drawing because I would like to create my drawing and make them very bardian. I used 'S' composition and systematical lines to make the drawing active, and then I use a different article to make it focused onto her face. Finally I depict my drawing with the composition. This way of create a detail artwork is very useful for me. They will help me confirm the result and implication of my work.

 

 

     There are images of the man's reference prototype which is Hashihime was loving. I use 织田信長 (Oda Nobunaga) for the reference because he is a very prominent person, and he suits my story of Hashihime; he's  already married and his wife very splendid. Even his sister is a top women in warring States Period.

    This drawing I used 'The iconic cross' for compositions; I use the cross to distinguish 2 characters in this image, They are back to back standing togerther. 今井美幸 ( Miyuki Imai ) is very grieved looking at the man because he on leaves to go to his family but 今井美幸 doesn't want him to go. So she dresses up like when they first met (dresses up like a man to avoid misunderstanding, because people think they are not clean and pure if a man lives with a unwed women.).
    This drawing story is called 'Leave' ; They are talking about how they met before and recall the days of 2 months. The man very thankfull for he will be go home soon, but 今井美幸 ( Miyuki Imai ) just is not happy.

—————— Light ——————


    These drawings to practice light, I tried to draw a leopard for my work. Because I hardly ever draw animals, so I would like to draw something new for study.

    I used normal day light colour and grey colour for my first drawing, becuase I would like to gradually study how to draw the light. I drew a ball next to the leopard to remind me the highlights .
    After that I tried to draw the leopard fur into the drawing and make sure my method of practice is right. I changed some colours of the drawing to made it look acceptable.

    These 2 drawings I changed the light angle and hues colour, because I wanted to tried to draw artificial light. Artificial light is very useful in modem life, for example photography, film, digital stuff and so on..

     I want to focus the light so I use grey colour for showing light variation. I thought about the shadow and ambient colour with the artificial light, I think the ambient colour will be dyeing mix to the main concept  (like this image, blue with yellow change to green ). Also the light will be changed on the image if the proper colour is chromatic.

 

    I like this way to study how to draw the light, because focus ,practice etc. could help me understand how to compose something.
